260 Years of the Govan Fair

Well that was the 260th anniversary of the Govan Fair and it’s all over for another year.

The Govan Fair Association would like to thank everyone who turned out in the streets to see the parade and enjoy the fun of the fair in Elder Park at the weekend – by far the best Govan Fair event for many years. We couldn’t have asked for better weather either.

Congratulations to Faatima Kazee from Riverside primary school who is our newly crowned Govan Queen.

We would like to thank everyone who took part in the parade, the stallholders, caterers, showpeople and volunteers who contributed to a great time out for everyone who attended the fair.

We would also like to individually thank the following:

Chief Gift Kofi Amu-Logotse from the African Arts Centre on Broomloan Road for bearing the Sheep’s Heid this year. Chief Amu has been part of our diverse community in Govan for many years and we are delighted to have recognised his contribution as part of this year’s fair.

The Reverend Moyna McGlynn from Govan and Linthouse Parish Church for crowning the Govan Queen this year.

Inspector John Haynes and the Police Scotland officers from Helen Street police station for their help and support to ensure the festivities went without incident and everyone enjoyed themselves safely.

Adrian Boiteux and Zeb Shaw for the event management on the days.

Glasgow City Council for their support and assistance with putting all of the arrangements in place for Elder Park.

Louisa Taylor and the team at Fablevision Studios who have worked very hard for months on the event organisation to make sure the weekend was such a huge success and for the production of an outstanding programme booklet.

Our Patrons: First Minister the Rt Hon Nicola Sturgeon MSP and Lord Provost of Glasgow Sadie Docherty.

Don’t forget if you picked up a copy of the programme to check the number on the back as we will be announcing the result of the raffle draw on the website shortly.
